Wayne Harvey
I was born in my father’s home state of CT, as a young child my parents moved the family here to Baden, MD near my mother’s people (the Segers and the Grimes). My first memories of church are growing up here at Cedarville Assembly of God. I accepted Christ at an early age, joined the membership in 1969 and other than military service postings, have spent most all of my life right here in Baden. My wife Roxanna and I were married at Cedarville in 1977, and we raised our family here. In 1988 I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, became active in the church, taught Sunday school and coached Cedarville’s Teen Bible Quiz team for a number of years.
The reason we attend Cedarville Assembly of God is our belief that Cedarville is where our Lord has placed us. Our view of church is not based on what will we gain from the sermon or what will we receive out of a church service but what would our Lord require of us, what parts are we to be here at Cedarville Assembly of God.
My goal is to serve Christ and His church by:
•being a living example of His grace in action
•listening with ears that hear what the Holy Spirit has to say
•keeping my heart sensitive to accept our Lord’s correction and instruction
•having the fortitude to stand strong when called to stand
•being willing and quick to obey the Spirit’s leading
•having a desire to rescue the perishing with a passion for nurturing growth and maturity in followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
•anticipating change in the church to fulfill our part as the new man expressing Christ in the earth.
As for the assembling of the Assembly, I see that as a process in part being accomplished in conjunction with the church building; but in a much fuller sense being accomplished by the church family functioning in the community outside of the four walls of a building, with those in Christ being properly joined together collectively expressing Christ within and throughout our community.
It is my understanding that even having all of the pieces of a nice puzzle, kept in excellent condition, neatly placed in the right box with the right picture on the box top does not meet the full intent of an assembled puzzle; but that each piece needs to be set in its proper place fitly joined together outside of the box to present the assembled puzzle; with the purpose of the box being, primarily to provide a safe haven serving to keep all the right pieces in one location until and/or as they are being assembled outside of the box. Also the box serves to set the standard by providing a true snapshot of, or the correct pattern for, what the completed puzzle ought to look like once the puzzle is properly assembled.
